Coding robots: preschoolers can do it, can you?

A School of Education Seminar presented on Wednesday 11 September 2019 by Dr Jo Bird

World-wide, educational authorities are recognising the importance of STEM, but these significant reforms miss the early childhood education sector. Teaching young children computational skills, for example, pattern recognition, creation and use of algorithms, problem decomposition and understanding abstraction, can all begin in early childhood. With the recently awarded HASSE CapEx Funding, I purchased several codable robots and associated equipment in order to undertake research exploring the most effective way to teach coding to preschoolers. Come along for some hands-on fun with robots and test your computational thinking skills. No prior knowledge or experience with robots needed. Just come, have a play and some fun.
