French Placement Test

You do not need to take this placement test if you:

have no knowledge of French. (You should enrol in FREN101.)
have completed HSC French Continuers (with a pass of 70% or over) or equivalent in the last two years. (You should enrol in FREN201.)
have completed FREN102 or FREN 150 or all French units at the Beginner level (the 1st-year French units) in the last two years. (You should enrol in FREN201.)
have completed JAPN202 or all French units at the Intermediate level (the 2nd-year French units) in the last two years. (You should enrol in FREN301.)
have completed FREN101, FREN201, FREN301, or equivalent in the last two years. (You should enrol in the next higher level unit, FREN102, FREN202 or FREN302.)

You must complete the placement test if any of the above does not apply to you, and/or you already have some knowledge of the language.

This online placement test is designed to assess your current French language proficiency level so you will be placed in the most appropriate level.
