E-bike Safety on Campus
E-bike storage and charging is prohibited inside UNE buildings
To protect our community from severe fire risks, you cannot store or charge e-bikes or e-scooters in any UNE building. This strict ban applies to all offices, residential colleges, laboratories, and common areas.
Why the ban?
Lithium-ion batteries carry a high risk of chemical fires that:
- Burn at extreme temperatures (up to 800°C)
- Release toxic, hazardous gases
- Spread rapidly and cannot be stopped with standard fire extinguishers
Where to store your e-bike
Do not bring your e-bike inside. Instead, use these approved areas:
- Undercover campus parking: W034 bike room (located under the Pharmacy building)
- Designated residential parking: Wright College, Bellevue Campus
- General parking: Bicycle racks outside campus buildings
Action required
If you see an e-bike stored or charging indoors, report it immediately to the EBE Help Desk (ph: 6773 2065) or UNE Security (ph: 6773 2099).
