Eligibility

As with all universities, there are rules around qualifying for entry to UNE. This section is designed to make those requirements as easy as possible to understand. However, always contact the university for advice if you are unsure.

There are certain requirements for admission to UNE.

  1. One is academic requirements: what you have already studied and the results you needed to qualify for entry to the UNE degree you intend to study.
  2. Another are English Language requirements. There are a few ways to demonstrate that your English is good enough to study at UNE. You can sit the IELTS exam, take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or take the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic.

English language requirements and Genuine Student assessment

The published University of New England (UNE) English language proficiency requirements set out the minimum entry standard for each course. The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has placed additional responsibility on providers to screen prospective international students to ensure that they are Genuine Students. Accordingly, additional English language evidence or higher scores may be required as part of UNE’s assessment of an applicant’s Genuine Student (GS) requirements and overall admission risk. UNE may also apply course-specific or applicant-specific English language thresholds to support compliance with Australian Government requirements, including Student visa (subclass 500) processing expectations and prevailing policy settings.

Other requirements for studying at UNE

  • To come to Armidale or Sydney, you also need a Student Visa and Overseas Student Health Cover.
  • Some other restrictions and requirements only apply to certain situations or certain courses.
