The world of medicine is rapidly advancing. UNE's innovative Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours course is Australia's first and only accredited undergraduate pharmacy degree that can be studied online. Through a combination of online learning and intensive practical schools at our Armidale campus, our course emphasises scientific rigour, clinical experience, and develops your critical thinking skills to ensure you are prepared for the vital and changing role of pharmacy in Australia's collaborative healthcare environment.

Study Australia's first and only online Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) accredited pharmacy degree. Our course gives you opportunities to:
- Explore clinical placements in rural and regional areas. We encourage you to seek out clinical placements in rural and regional communities, which are at the heart of UNE's research and teaching programs. As a student at UNE you may be eligible to apply to the Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme, valued at $10,000 per annum per student.*
- Learn contemporary skills in our professional practice laboratory with model dispensary and dedicated formulation laboratory, ensuring that you graduate ready to operate in a clinical workplace.
- Develop your interest in a specialist area of pharmacy as well as critical thinking skills with the independent Honours research project undertaken in your final year (or, if you are studying part-time, in your second last year of study).
- Study with the experts in online education. In fact, UNE is Australia's longest continuous provider of distance (now online) education.
In the second and fourth years of the degree, you will complete 7 weeks of practical work experience (35 hours per week). This practical component includes clinical placement in community and hospital pharmacies, with one week full-time in a rural community pharmacy. Placements are integrated with coursework units during normal university trimester times.
* The Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme enables students from rural and remote areas to undertake university studies in pharmacy. Each year at least 30 scholarships are offered, with a value of $10,000 per annum per student.
Study online
Most of our students choose to study online across three study periods with 24/7 tutor support* and fit study around work and family commitments. Uniquely, our online students are mostly over 30 and bring valuable experience with them. They form a community of adults juggling the same challenges and priorities and who bring their life and work experience together at UNE in order to become future-fit and better respond to a rapidly changing world.
* 24/7 tutor support includes: essay feedback (within 24 hours); live chat 24/7 for generic feedback on academic writing; and subject-specific help at a foundation or first-year level for subjects including mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, business, accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics. Online study in your own country
If you would like to study online with UNE while you reside outside of Australia you do not need a Student Visa. If your course requires you to visit Australia to attend any mandatory study requirements, you would need to explore Visitor Visa options for a short-term stay.
Online study in Australia
If you would like to study online with UNE while you are residing in Australia, you will need to hold a visa (other than a Student Visa) that allows you to study. If you are unsure if your visa allows you to study, you can check with UNE's International Admissions team. If you hold a Student Visa you cannot study completely online; you must be enrolled as an on-campus student (although you can study a limited number of online units).
Some courses require you to provide documentary evidence, or interviews to support your application. The following documents are required to support your application:
- Any supporting documents related to your admission pathway. For example, if you apply based on previous study, upload evidence of your study so we can assess eligibility.
- Proof of identity and citizenship. This can be a certified/notarised copy of the photo page of your passport, or another form of official photo identification that lists your full personal details including name and date of birth; for example, a foreign government identity card.
- Evidence of English Language Requirements satisfied. If you have completed a UNE-approved formal English test within the last two years, you must provide a copy of the test results with your application. Please see UNE’s English Language Requirements above for further information.
Advanced Standing is credit or recognition of your previous study, work and/or life experience. This can reduce the cost and length of your studies.
Individual Unit Advanced Standing
If you are admitted into this course and believe you have already completed the equivalent of one or more of the units in your Course Structure (Program of Study) within the last ten years, you can apply for Individual Unit Advanced Standing.
Please note: When transferring from another institution a maximum of 50% of the course can be awarded as Advanced Standing. Advanced Standing cannot be granted for the following units:

- At least 4 units of study within a single course, including CHEM110 Chemistry I and MTHS110 Quantitative Skills with Applications, with a minimum GPA of 4.1
- OR 5 or more units of study within a single course, including CHEM110 Chemistry I and MTHS110 Quantitative Skills with Applications with a minimum GPA of 3.8.

This is a free (fees exempt) and 100% online program designed to help you prepare for university. It will provide you with all the skills needed to undertake undergraduate study.

Fees and scholarships
Understanding Your Course Fees
Your total course fees are based on the number of units you complete, not the length of time you study. This gives you flexibility to tailor your study journey to suit your circumstances.
Here's how it works:
- Unit-based pricing - Each unit has its own fee. Visit our Fees and Costs section for detailed unit pricing information
- Advanced standing - If you're eligible for credit for previous study, you'll complete fewer units and pay less overall
- Study pace - Choose part-time or full-time study to fit your schedule without affecting unit costs
- Trimester 3 option - Students who choose to accelerate their progress by studying during Trimester 3 can do so without increasing overall costs

* Annual course fees only cover the cost of tuition. They do not include other expenses associated with university study such as text books, accommodation and living expenses. If you are successful in gaining admission to study at UNE, the Offer of Admission will list the exact tuition fees you need to pay for your course. What are the course fee payment options?
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is a government subsidised place in a university course. The government pays part of your tuition fees, and you pay the remainder.
If you have a CSP in either an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree, you may be eligible for a HECS-HELP Loan, which allows you to defer payment of your fees until you are earning above the threshold.
UNE scholarships are open for all to apply and offer financial help while you are studying. There are scholarships for students with high academic achievement, from rural areas, studying specific degrees, in disadvantaged groups, experiencing financial hardship, who excel at sport or want to live in a UNE residential college.
UNE offers bursaries and scholarships that can help you with the costs of studying and living in Australia.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council and is approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia as a qualification leading to registration as a pharmacist in Australia.
Curriculum changes have been submitted to the Australian Pharmacy Council for accreditation approval. The application is currently under assessment and the University is awaiting the outcome.
Course outcomes

- retrieve, critically evaluate and apply evidence, in professional practice;
- demonstrate well-developed teamwork and leadership skills as part of a collaborative interprofessional healthcare environment;
- demonstrate an ability to take account of the patient perspective when making clinically, ethically and scientifically sound decisions in a complex environment;
- demonstrate communication skills in lay and professional language, choosing strategies appropriate for the context and diverse audiences;
- critically plan and implement ongoing professional development (lifelong learning) by reflecting on current skills, knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practice;
- apply knowledge and skills to pharmaceutical sciences, business and healthcare: (i) within their scope of practice, in the assessment of individual health status and medication needs. Where necessary, develop, implement, transmit, and monitor management plans in consultation with people to improve patient outcomes; (ii) to promote and optimise the health and welfare of communities and/or populations;
- demonstrate the ability to formulate, prepare and also supply medications and therapeutic products;
- demonstrate the ability to conduct a research investigation under supervision in a research or professional environment by critically analysing a challenging complex or multi-faceted problem that furthers the theory and practice of pharmacy; and
- demonstrate the principles of self-care and personal management to meet the needs of themselves and others.
- Knowledge of a Discipline
Graduates are able to apply the knowledge and skills across a number of areas relevant to pharmacy. This will be taught in lectures, tutorials and workshops and will be assessed in a range of assessment tasks.
- Communication Skills
Graduates will have both verbal and written practical communication skills for a range of audiences, demonstrated through a variety of assessments.
- Problem Solving
Graduates will have problem solving approaches demonstrated in learning materials and will develop the capacity for problem solving, including prioritisation and risk management. Problem solving will be assessed in a range of assessment tasks.
- Information Literacy
Graduates will have skills in retrieval and appraisal of information, demonstrated in assessment tasks.
- Ethical Conduct and Social Responsibility
Graduates will be able to recognise, reflect on, and respond appropriately to social, cultural and ethical issues that have been assessed in a variety of pharmacy contexts.
- Lifelong Learning
Graduates will be committed to the principles and practice of lifelong learning and professional development. The ability to plan for their own professional development will be assessed.
- Independence and Collaboration
Graduates will have the ability to work independently, collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team. to achieve individual and common goals. Performance as a team member is assessed in 4th year units.

As an international student you can take advantage of flexible online study from overseas or while you are studying in Australia on a visa other than a student visa. You can’t study fully online on a Student Visa.
To study online from overseas you need to consider that you may need to travel to Australia to attend a UNE campus for some mandatory intensive schools.
