Are you someone with professional work or community experience?

Cassie Yates Perhaps you have worked in an industry for some time, but don’t yet have any formal qualifications to match your experience? Maybe you hold several formal qualifications but are not sure if they qualify you for entry to university.

The Internal Selection on Program (ISP) is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with professional work or community experience and any formal qualifications from TAFE or other training providers.  The Oorala Aboriginal Centre will work with you to determine your readiness to enrol in higher education at the University of New England.

We are currently offering an online assessment program.

UNE has 3 annual commencement periods.  You can choose from:

  • Trimester 1, 2024 - commences Monday 26 February
  • Trimester 2, 2024 - commences Monday 24 June
  • Trimester 3, 2024 - commences Monday 21 October

How to Apply

STEP 1. Go to and Complete the Internal Selection Program Application Form

STEP 2. Upload your documentation as part of the application process

  • A copy of your Curriculum Vitae (Resume)
  • Evidence of school study
  • Evidence of any prior learning you think is applicable to the university course your wish to study (if applicable)
  • Evidence of relevant professional experience (if applicable)
  • Transcripts from TAFE/College/University (if applicable)
  • One (1) reference from a referee who is not related to you

STEP 3. Once your application is received, you will be contacted by a staff member who will

  • discuss your application with you
  • provide details of the personal statement we will then require you to submit.
  • arrange a suitable time for you to participate in a short interview via Zoom.

STEP 4. Apply separately for your chosen UNE course at https://www.une.edu.au/study/applying-to-une

Post Assessment Pathways

  1. Candidates who successfully meet the requirements for the Internal Selection Program will be offered a place in an undergraduate degree program at the University of New England, subject to any additional entry requirements.
  2. Candidates who do not yet meet the requirements for entry to UNE via the Internal Selection Program will be offered a place in the TRACKS tertiary preparation program and will have the opportunity to discuss alternative pathways to higher education with representatives from Oorala.
