Jack Hobbs Dr Jack Hobbs

Jack came to Australia and UNE in the mid 1960’s, commencing his long and illustrious academic career at UNE as a Teaching Fellow in Geography in 1965. He was awarded a Masters in Science 1969 and a PhD in 1973. Over the years Jack went on to hold the positions of Head of Department, Associate Professor, and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts until his retirement from fulltime academia around 2000.

Jack’s association with Earle Page College, commenced in 1965 when EPC was only in its third year and was a collection of a men’s only cottages in town. Jack held the position of Resident Tutor between 1965 and 1969, SCR President 2001 – 2003, Assistant Master 2004 – 2009, then leaving EPC to take up the Headship at Mary White College and Robb College. Upon his retirement in 2011, Jack returned to EPC, again taking on the role as SCR President until early 2019 when he decided it was time to step down.

Jack continues to be EPC’s most passionate advocate for his “home away from home”. He remains heavily involved with the SCR and a much loved member of our community. I congratulate Jack on his outstanding contribution to the College over the years and am grateful for his ongoing service to EPC.
