Study Pharmacy

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours is available to study either online or on campus. Full-time candidature allows a student to complete the degree within 4 years. Alternatively, part-time study allows students to complete the degree over a maximum of ten years. The degree must be completed within ten years from the date of commencement to satisfy accreditation.

The University of New England is the first university in Australia to offer a Pharmacy degree through online study. Students who wish to study the course online will be required to attend mandatory intensive schools on campus each trimester.

Why study the Bachelor of Pharmacy at UNE?

Teaching and research facilities at UNE feature a professional practice laboratory with a model dispensary and a dedicated formulation laboratory. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours degree will develop a strong foundation in basic and pharmaceutical sciences core skills which will be integrated with contemporary knowledge and application in pharmaceutics and pharmacy practice.

Students who enrol in the Pharmacy course complete Mental Health First Aid, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) “Support the Supply of Pharmacy Medicines and Pharmacist Only Medicines”, and vaccination training as part of their degree.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours program at UNE is recognised by the Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacy as a provider of Stage One of accreditation to provide medication review services and graduates are already on the pathway to strong professional practice and enhanced employment opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What background knowledge do I need? What should I study at school?
  • You need a sound knowledge of NSW HSC level (or equivalent) Chemistry and Mathematics plus it is recommended that you have a knowledge of Biology. It would also be advantageous to have completed the equivalent of NSW HSC Mathematics Extension 1.
  • We offer introductory units in Chemistry and Mathematics for students who do not have the recommended background knowledge.
  • We also offer free Bridging Courses in Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • We also offer the Bachelor of Scientific Studies which was designed for students who do not have a background in Science. We do recommend that if you don’t have a Science background, you
    give serious consideration to including the Bachelor of Scientific Studies as a preference when you submit your application.
  • Alternatively, you might like to consider enrolling for the Bachelor of Scientific Studies in the first instance and, on successful completion of eight units, you can transfer to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science with some credit (advanced standing) for units you have completed.
Can I apply for early entry?

Only Year 12 and some TAFE students can apply for UNE Direct Early Entry.

Are there further study options?

Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours graduates are eligible to apply to enrol for the research degree, the Master of Philosophy, and those who have the appropriate level of Honours are eligible to apply to enrol for the Doctor of Philosophy.
