Chemistry Bridging Course
The Chemistry Bridging Short Course (CBSC) is a refresher course which focuses on the development of core chemical literacy and understanding. It is designed to help students with the transition to university and who intend to study first year chemistry by developing a strong foundation in some of the core concepts and skills of chemistry, required for success in CHEM110. It will also help you to understand why chemistry is an enabling science and hence required for your degree program.
Students who have NOT completed Year 12 HSC chemistry or its equivalent, or who feel that their knowledge of chemistry needs refreshing, are strongly encouraged to take the course. We typically recommend that students who have not completed HSC level chemistry, complete CHEM100 Introductory Chemistry before enrolling in CHEM110, and this short course will help you to decide if you need to change your enrolment and complete CHEM100 before enrolling in CHEM110.
To access the Chemistry Bridging Short Course, please log in to Moodle using your UNE student credentials, then search for Chemistry Bridging Short Course in the Quick Site Search bar. The course, which is offered online only, includes a lecturer-guided component consisting of regular online lectures and tutorials for each module of study. The course also includes a self-guided component that will be completed using the prescribed textbook and study guides. Note that successfully completing this course does not guarantee success in first year chemistry units, nor can it be included as a unit in a degree program. Students should be able to commit a minimum of 4 hours per day to the course for its duration
There is no cost, other than the prescribed textbook. This is the same textbook used for CHEM110.
All resources except the prescribed textbook, will be supplied through the Learning Management System, Moodle. Students will be given access to Moodle just prior to course commencement.
Students are expected to purchase the textbook in either print, eBook or eChapters well in advance of the commencement of the course. This will enable students to read the relevant chapters in advance.
