HDR Fees and Scholarships

Our scholarships can support you throughout your degree by covering the cost of tuition fees and living expenses while you study.

What support is available to help with the cost of study?

Eligible Domestic Higher Degree Research (HDR) students will not pay tuition fees, as fees for graduate research degrees are funded by the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship. This is provided for up to a maximum period of four years' full-time equivalent study for a doctorate by research and two years' full-time equivalent study for a masters by research.

A RTP Fees Offset Scholarship is not a paid stipend. It is paid directly to the University on your behalf to offset costs of tuition fees. However, you will continue to be required to pay the UNE Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).

The Department of Education and Training has a website on the Research Training Program and has established a FAQ specifically for HDR.

Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)

All students pay Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). Details about the SSAF, including costs and payment options, are available on our SSAF information page. SA-HELP is a loan scheme that can assist eligible students by deferring student services and amenities fees through the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP).

Fees for international students will vary, depending on the research area. International students may apply for a full fee research scholarship to cover the cost of their fees. Information regarding fees can be found on the Course page of the particular research degree.
