Targeted Tutorial Assistance (TTA) Program

Student - Terms and Conditions

1. Supplementary Service

1.1 I understand that the TTA Program is offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students studying at the University of New England, and offers tutoring to assist with understanding UNE unit content and course requirements; creating a study plan for my UNE studies; academic writing and referencing; and UNE exam preparation.

1.2 I understand that the TTA Program is offered at the sole discretion of UNE  and that I have no guaranteed right to receive the services it offers. The University of New England (UNE), through the Oorala Aboriginal Centre (Oorala), will do its best to provide tuition but may not in all circumstances be able to provide a suitable tutor, or provide a tutor within preferred timeframes.

1.3 I understand that TTA is a supplementary service and is not to be relied upon to pass my subjects.

2. Bookings Tutorials

2.1 I understand that tutorial sessions can only begin when

(a) I have applied to receive a tutor via the TTA Online; and

(b) Oorala have assigned me a tutor through TTA Online; and

(c) I have submitted a tutoring session booking request at least three (3) days prior to requiring a tutoring session, and it has been approved by authorised staff at Oorala; and

(d) the tutor has confirmed the tutoring session booking request via Online TTA Portal; and

2.2 I understand that UNE will not be responsible for payment of any tutoring arrangements that has not complied with clause 3.1.

2.3 I agree that I will promptly complete a TTA Program End of Trimester Evaluation at the end of each trimester that I have received tuition.

3. Preparation and Attendance

3.1 I agree that it is my responsibility to prepare for and attend all tutorial sessions.

3.2 I understand that it is my responsibility to respond to all communication from my tutor, and if I no longer require assistance, I will promptly advise both the TTA Program Coordinator and my tutor in writing.

3.3 I agree that I will discuss and mutually agree with my tutor how my TTA Program allocated hours will be used during the trimester, and what is an unreasonable expectation of availability for tutoring.

3.4 I agree that specific methods and times of contact are to be decided at the beginning of the trimester with my tutor and that I must not initiate contact outside of those arrangements.

3.5 I agree that my tutor is not responsible for providing any additional assistance outside my tutorial sessions.

3.6 I agree that my attendance and participation at tutorial sessions may be monitored by Oorala for quality assurance purposes and to ensure that my tutorial arrangements are working effectively.

3.7 I understand that UNE is the employer of my TTA Program  tutor, and UNE may liaise with my tutors, exchange information and enquire into my learning needs, academic progress and other TTA Program related matters.

3.8 I agree to provide feedback about my tutoring program as requested by UNE. I will promptly advise Oorala staff of any issues with my tutoring service.

4. Cancellation policy

4.1 If I require the tutorial session to be postponed or cancelled I agree that it is my responsibility to give the tutor at least 24 hours’ notice; and remove my booking request via the Online TTA Portal or by email.

4.2 If I am unable to provide 24 hours’ notice due to unforeseen circumstances or an emergency, I agree to provide as much notice as possible by phone or email.

4.3 If I do not provide 24 hours’ notice or do not provide any notice that I cannot attend a tutoring session, I understand that the two [2] hours will be deducted from my allocation of tutorial hours.

4.5 I understand in accordance with the TTA Guidelines my TTA Program tutorial arrangement may be terminated if I do not attend three scheduled tutoring sessions within a trimester without giving at least 24 hours notice. This decision is made after review by the TTA Coordinator and the Student Engagement Manager  A decision to terminate my TTA Program tutorial arrangement is at the discretion of UNE and is final.

5. Originality of work

5.1 I agree that under no circumstances will I ask or expect tutors to do any part of my work for me.

5.2 I agree that I will not ask or expect my tutor to undertake library research, do subject reading, take or supply notes, nor write or word-process assignments on my behalf.

5.3 I understand that the editing and proofreading of my work is my responsibility and that if I need assistance in developing the ability to edit and proofread the TTA tutor can provide me with assistance but will not edit and proofread my work for me.

6. Total Approved Hours

6.1 I understand that the approved allocation of hours for TTA support can be found in the TTA Program Guidelines.

6.2 I agree that it is my responsibility to monitor the usage of allocated tutorial hours to ensure that the maximum allocation of tutorial hours is not exceeded.

6.3 I understand that if additional hours for tutoring are required, that it is my responsibility to submit an application through the online Request Additional Hours form to the TTA Program Coordinator providing evidence of why I need additional tutoring hours. Evidence must include support from the unit coordinator  outlining the specific outcomes required for the unit.

7. Personal Information

9.1 I agree that information provided by me to TTA will be kept on file and may be used by Oorala or passed on to the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet [PM&C] (the funding body) for monitoring and evaluation purposes

8. Conflict of Interest

8.1 I understand that it is my responsibility to declare any actual or perceived conflict of interest.

9. Acknowledgment

9.1 I understand that failure to agree to comply with any or all of these terms and conditions may result in termination of my access to the TTA Program
