Parking FAQs

Will staff, students, contractors and visitors have to pay more for parking in 2024?

No. Permit prices over the past 3 years have increased however prices in 2024 remain capped at 2023 prices.

See cost of parking for information on permit prices and options.

Will staff still need to apply for Red Bays in 2024?

Yes. To ensure that red bays are available to everyone each year and to ensure equity, we will call for applications each year in January. Applications are open for approximately 1 month & close in the first week of February. Red bays are then allocated & the start date of all Red Permits issued is 1st March. In order to coordinate availability each year, all annual (12 month Red Bays) expire on the same date, which is either 28/29 February of the following year.

How will visitors to the Booloominbah Collection café access a parking permit?

The Booloominbah Collection is currently closed. When it reopens Pink Permit parking will recommence in the car park.

Salary Sacrifice

Only available for Red Permits. The process is unchanged from previous years. Applications are lodged via your Parking Account

Blue

  • There are no restrictions on who can purchase a blue parking permit. Blue permit bays are for general parking.
  • Vehicles issued with a Blue permit (vertual or otherwise) are permitted to park in blue parking bays only.

Red

  • Red parking bays are numbered and are for the exclusive use of the allocated permit holder. The owner of a red bay can park is authorised to park in his/her red bay 24/7.
  • Owners of a red permit (virtual or otherwise) are permitted to park in their assigned red bay & also blue permit bays.

See Where to Park for designated parking zone information.

Do I have to download the Strada app in order to purchase short term parking ?

Yes, you are required to download the app,Short term parking is only available via the app. The old parking machines were removed from car parks early in 2024 as they became obsolete & no longer a viable payment option.

Where will my personal details (registration, credit card) be stored?

They will be stored in the Parking data base. UNE IT and UNE Governance are comfortable with the privacy arrangements and protocols in place which comply with Australian Financial & Privacy standards for the storage of such personal information.

Will I still display a permit on my windscreen?

No. Unless you have a "Scratch & Display" permit issued by a UNE Faculty / School / Department you no longer have to display a physical parking permit on your vehicle. Only where a physical permit has been issued is this the case. A physical permit issued by UNE requires you to display that permit in clear view on the dashboard of your vehicle.

All other permits issued by UNE are now virtual. Meaning there is no physical permit. What is purchased is a block of time  for Blue, Red, Green & Purple permits linked to a vehicles registration number. By electronically checking a vehicles registration number the Parking Enforcement officer can see if parking has been paid for that vehicle.

What happens if i don't buy a permit ?

Safety, Security & Information have access to real time up to date information in the field. They use this information to check a vehicles registration number & see if parking has been paid. Vehicles found to be either parked in the wrong permit bay, have an expired permit or no permit at all will be issued with a Penalty Notice.

Will “Scratch & Display” parking still be used for visitors?

It is envisaged that Scratch & Display parking permits will be retained for the time being. Faculties, Schools and Departments will be contacted by Parking Administration when virtual 'Scratch & Display" permits are available.

Find our more information about parking permits.

When do permits start & when do they expire ?

Parking permits are active on the date you pay from them & expire at the end of the period for which they were purchased . For example if a Blue 12 month permit is purchased on the 22nd August, then the expiry date will be 21st August in the following year. No longer do Blue & Green permits  expire on the 28th/29th February each year.

Red permits operate differently. All annual (12 month) red permits issued with a start date of 1st March expire on the 28th / 29th February in the following year. Red permits with a shorter duration (6 months or less) have the following restriction on sales:

  • 6 month Red permits are not sold after 31st August
  • 4 month Red permits are not sold after 31st October
  • 2 month Red permits are not sold after 31st December

This is so all red bays are available for allocation each year & have the same commencement date of 1st March.
