BUPA Healthcare

What does Bupa cover?

Bupa offers cover for a range of services, and some are:

  • The cost of medical treatments in and out of hospital
  • Bupa Direct Billing Doctors which reduce out pocket expenses (a Direct Billing Doctor is a Doctor who agrees to send the claim direct to Bupa to be processed. Present your Bupa membership card and photo identification at the time of your consultation).
  • A 24-hour advice line
  • Bupa Plus-Membership Benefits – Exclusive benefits for Bupa members

Why you need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)?

The Australian Government requires you to have OSHC for the duration of your study period in Australia. OSHC can help ensure you’re covered for the cost of medical treatments if you fall sick or have an accident.

Overseas Visitors Health Cover

Get 485 health cover that meets temporary graduate visa requirements

When you finish your studies as an International Student in Australia, you’ll need to switch from your OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) to a temporary graduate visa with accompanying health cover.

Bupa’s 485 Visa Health Insurance will help you meet your 485 visa requirements.

If you’re transferring off Bupa’s OSHC

As Australia’s Department of Home Affairs requires you to have continuous health cover for your duration in Australia, it is common for you to have OSHC and 485 cover with Bupa while you’re applying for your 485 visa. This means you may have two covers at the same time while you wait for a decision about your visa. When you get your new visa, simply let Bupa know. Bupa will backdate the end of your Bupa OSHC cover to the date your new cover started, so you’re not paying for the two covers with Bupa.
