WHS Consultation - WORKGROUP RESTRUCTURING
The University is committed to ensuring a culture of inclusion and consultation in relation to health and safety matters raised by staff. One important avenue for health and safety consultation is facilitated through WHS work groups and elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSR's) within those work groups. Following the recent university-wide consultation and a formal vote, workers have endorsed the Organisational Structure model for UNE’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Work Groups. This model aligns safety representation directly with the University’s formal reporting and governance framework, strengthening consultation pathways and improving issue escalation processes. The new structure establishes 9 Work Groups, supported by 12 HSRs (including Controlled Entities).

CALL FOR Health and Safety Representative (HSR) NOMINATIONS
We are now inviting nominations for Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) across the above newly established Work Groups.
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, you have the right to be represented on health and safety matters. Being an HSR is more than a compliance requirement it is an opportunity to:
- Represent your colleagues.
- Strengthen consultation within your area.
- Contribute to practical safety improvements.
- Support a positive safety culture across UNE.
What are the functions of an HSR?
HSR’s play a vital role in representing the health and safety interests of their Work Group members, facilitating consultation between workers and management, and helping to foster a strong safety culture across the University.
What support will you receive?
- Access to approved HSR training (paid, during work time)
- Ongoing support from the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team
- A direct line into UNE's WHS consultation framework, including the WHS Committee
