Bill and Michelle Stewart Postgraduate Scholarship - Environmental and Rural Science

Background

Bill and Michelle Stewart were both graduate students at UNE. Both graduated in 1978 – Michelle with an MA in Musicology and Bill with a PhD in Zoology. They will always be grateful for the experience and many skills developed during their studies in the Music and Zoology departments and the wonderful support and relationships with professors and peers they enjoyed on campus.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students doing graduate research in the field of zoology/biological sciences. Bill has a particular interest in the study of insects, birds, mammals and reptiles.

Details 

The scholarship is valued at $5,000.00 per annum paid in two instalments, and is available for up to two years for a Masters by research and three years for a doctoral degree for any new and continuing students within the Zoology/Biology research area. Students must be enrolled on campus, full time.

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

The applicant must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident as defined by the Commonwealth. The applicant must be a new or continuing UNE student in their 1st 2nd or 3rd year of one of the following degrees:

  1. Master of Science (zoology/biology research)
  2. Master of Scientific Studies (zoology research major)
  3. Master of Philosophy*
  4. Doctor of Philosophy*

* Preferred area of research includes zoology or biology

Be able to demonstrate financial need for the scholarship and how it would benefit your research.

The scholarship shall be awarded for the duration of the postgraduate degree, however, continuation of the scholarship in subsequent Trimesters and/or academic years will be dependent upon the recipient continuing to meet regular progress reports and the conditions of eligibility stated in the Terms and Conditions regarding enrolment, residence and academic standards.

Selection Criteria

Students applications will be assessed, and the successful recipient will be selected based on in order of financial need, academic merit, as well as statement of case.

HDR candidates must provide a statement of support from their principal supervisor along with all supporting documentation along with a completed HDR Scholarship Application form and submitted to the UNE Graduate Research School.
