As the first Australian university established outside a capital city, UNE has been pioneering distance and online education for over 60 years - the longest record in Australia - which has led to us being the only Australian university to be awarded five stars for overall satisfaction every year for 17 years by our students in the Good Universities' Guide.

Our research is consistently rated world standard or above by Excellence in Research for Australia, and we have received over $2 million in funding from the ARC for 2019.

Consistently producing leading world-class research, with top five-star rating (‘Well Above World Standard’) by the ARC’s 2018 ERA assessment for 15 specific research fields, mostly within the broad fields of agricultural & veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, and mathematical sciences. Also high ratings for education and health fields.
Consistently leveraging research strengths and technological expertise (eg UNE SMART Farm) to support longstanding research partnerships with key national institutions, including CSIRO, ABARES, federal and state departments of agriculture and environment, and agricultural R&D corporations
Expanding strategic long-term research and teaching partnerships with targeted overseas institutions, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, aimed at building research collaboration, staff exchanges and student recruitment.
Continuing in particular to expand UNE’s agriculture-related research partnerships, including via numerous joint projects in the Indo-Pacific with ACIAR (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research), with clear benefits for agricultural productivity growth both in Australia and for our developing country neighbours.
