About Us

The survival of threatened species and ecosystems depends on conservation of their genetic diversity and their interactions, particularly in the face of climate change and habitat loss. We use a broad range of techniques, including molecular population genetics and cutting-edge genomics to study the ecological and evolutionary processes of plants. In the context of conservation, this research can help inform us not only which taxa may need conservation, but key considerations for their management.

Our Research
  • Conservation genetics, including
    • Predicting and managing adaptation to changing climate conditions
    • Teasing apart plant dispersal and demography processes shaping genetic diversity
  • Species delimitation and taxonomy in understudied native plants
  • Speciation, hybridisation, and how those processes shape adaptation in Eucalyptus
  • Environmental genomics, including the use of eDNA to investigate ecological processes in soil and litter, and with the associated barcoding of herbarium reference collections
Join Us

Join our group if you have a keen interest in evolution, ecology and genetics. We are especially keen to hear from you if you want to combine genomics and ecology to current conservation problems, or if you want to tackle the complex evolution of Australian plants. Botanical skills, field experience, statistical skills and bioinformatics skills are beneficial, but not always essential. If you have a strong foundation and you’re willing to put in the work to master the skills you will need for your project, you will fit in well.
