About Us
Fungi and other cryptogams are critical to healthy ecosystems, yet they remain among the least understood organisms on the planet. Our research explores how fungi interact with plants, animals, and soils, from microbiome partnerships to landscape-scale conservation. We investigate cryptogamic communities – particularly biocrusts and biofilms – which also remain critically understudied despite their essential roles in stabilising soils, cycling nutrients, and sustaining healthy ecosystems across Australian landscapes.
Research areas focus on the ecology of fungi, biocrusts and cryptogams (algae, biofilms, bryophytes, cyanobacteria, and lichens). Our key areas include: Want to be part of this work?
