Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

This unit serves as a capstone to learning in the Undergraduate Certificate in Arts and is also available to other undergraduate students as an elective. The unit provides the opportunity for students to synthesise prior knowledge and life experience with skills and knowledge gained through the UGCA (or other UNE courses) while supporting a personalised learning journey and career objectives.

Working under the guidance of the Unit Coordinator, the student will engage in either an individual or group project. The nature of the project is flexible, and may be framed around research, creative practice, industry work-experience, or community-based activities. Students are encouraged to develop projects that are place-based and connected to their local lives and communities while supporting their individual learning journey. The project may be based around an activity or work that the student already undertakes, where skills and knowledge gained from study at UNE may be applied (e.g., a dance class, sport, a creative practice, volunteering, or an existing job), or a new activity.

The unit offers a structure for reflection upon this activity in terms of learning and experience and connects it to the other units of study the student has undertaken. The synthesis of knowledge and experience developed in this unit supports life-long learning and work-ready capability.

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

Why study with us?

Graduate and mother Claire Haiek at work as a parenting producer at kidspot.com.au

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
