Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

This unit extends on strategies developed in HSSW555. This unit will incorporate key aspects of the literature on groupwork processes and exploration of the role of the Social Worker. During this unit, which includes a mandatory face-to-face intensive, students will simulate skills required for groupwork in social work practice, and understand how individuals, groups and communities can co-create opportunities for development.

This unit will incorporate key aspects of intervention and skills development as students near the end of their degree. During this unit, which includes an intensive, students will simulate skills required in interventions in social work practice, and understand high-level teamwork skills alongside interdisciplinary practice to achieve positive client outcomes. The unit will reinforce communication, teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking within a Social Work lens.

As with HSSW555, students will continue to contribute to their e-portfolio of key skills, reflections on ongoing development and self-evaluation activities.

Woman studying online at home

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

Why study with us?

Graduate and mother Claire Haiek at work as a parenting producer at kidspot.com.au

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
