Unit information
This unit introduces Social Work students to foundational strategies and skills that develop their Social Work identity.
Through engagement in a synchronous, face-to-face, compulsory intensive school, the unit will provide students with an understanding of, and the opportunity to practice and demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking skills through a Social Work lens.
Students will also develop awareness of their role as a social worker within interdisciplinary teams and in the broader community.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- apply technical and theoretical knowledge and concepts in Social Work practice in the community; and
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge of social work reflexivity and capacity to work with marginalised and vulnerable population groups; and
- describe the consequences of working utilising an ethical approach to Social Work practice in a community-setting.
