Extend your analytical thinking ability, with research skills that are in demand in the workplace. Contribute to original research addressing complex social problems, with this unit, taken in the second half of your honours program.

Guided by experienced, approachable supervisors, you will initiate, plan and implement data collection for your social work honours research project, developing transferrable writing skills and communicating complex knowledge and ideas to different audiences.

Critiquing your findings, you will evaluate them in relation our current understanding of social work issues.

Your understanding of the ethical issues at the forefront in social work research will be enhanced as you apply this understanding to the conduct of your project.

This unit follows on from HSSW401H and involves the preparation of a 20,000-word dissertation (including the literature review produced for HSSW401H).

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate writing skills necessary for Bachelor Honours research to transfer complex knowledge and ideas;
  2. initiate, plan and implement data collection and analysis for a supervised research project;
  3. critically review, analyse and evaluate the findings of the data in relation to the existing body of knowledge; and
  4. demonstrate the application of ethical research in the fields of social work research.
