Unit information
Explore the relationship between physical activity and health across the lifespan within the Australian healthcare system by studying this topical unit.
This includes trends in health and disease, determinants of health, and the benefits of physical activity. You will also examine the healthcare system and the agencies involved in promoting health.
With this understanding, you will learn evidence-based strategies to increase physical activity participation, common barriers and factiliators associated with physical activity adherence and consider the application of behaviour change principles to support adherance to physical activity-based interventions.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of Australia's healthcare system and prevalent health concerns in contrast with Global trends;
- within the scope of practice of an exercise professional, critically define the benefits of physical activity across the lifespan and its dose response relationship with health;
- accurately describe and discuss factors that influence physical activity participation at both an individual and also a population level; and
- apply behaviour change strategies and consider physical activity promotion guidelines to improve health at individual, population and community levels.
