With constant technological disruption and rapid change in the healthcare sector, successfully meeting your organisation’s strategic objectives depends upon attracting and retaining a motivated, sustainable and high performing workforce.
This unit introduces you to key concepts in human resource management, with a focus on the challenges unique to health workforce management.
Learn to design and implement innovative solutions for the challenges you will face by critically evaluating tools for building workforce capacity and increasing workforce productivity and analysing the factors contributing to problems and strengths in the health workforce.
You will explore planning strategies to attract, select, motivate and develop people who are willing and capable contributors to quality healthcare provision, framed by an understanding of the structures and roles found in Australian systems.

You must enrol in this unit by the Monday before the Trimester starts. If there are insufficient student numbers this unit will not run and you will be withdrawn from the unit and offered an appropriate alternate unit by the course coordinator.
Trimester 2 On Campus offering, at UNE Sydney campus, is for candidates in Master of Health Management (International) only.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- critically evaluate strategic human resources management in relation to healthcare;
- critically analyse factors contributing to problems and strengths in the nature of the health workforce including structures and roles in Australian healthcare; and
- evaluate methods to build workforce capacity, increase workforce productivity and improve workforce distribution.
