Unit information
Studying this unit, you will critically investigate leadership and management theories and practices in and for children's services.
You will broaden your understanding of a variety of concepts, including human interactions, leader's roles and responsibilities, conflict and change management, personal and professional learning and mentoring.
In doing so, you will gain a strong understanding about authentic, effective early childhood leadership across diverse settings and contexts.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify and analyse the relationship of current leadership theories to early childhood education (CS 3.1, 3.3, 3.4);
- critically analyse, evaluate and develop policies and procedures for leadership and management in children's services (CS 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4);
- develop and reflect on relevant interactional abilities for mentoring and conflict and change management and express a variety of highly effective communication strategies (CS 3.1, 3.3);
- demonstrate a high level of self-awareness leading to authentic leadership (CS 3.1, 3.3); and
- demonstrate professional responsibility and standards of communication and literacy (CS 3.2, 3.3, 3.4).
