Unit information
This unit introduces you to the manifold facets of the Italian Renaissance. You will explore the intellectual developments and the unprecedented advances in the fields of art, architecture, science, literature and technology.
The unit adopts an interdisciplinary approach and analyses literary texts in translation, documentary sources, and visual and material culture outputs. You will have the opportunity to develop a topic of interest using a wide range of mediums. You will also gain an all-round knowledge and understanding of the Italian Renaissance and its legacy throughout time.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a deep understanding of the social, political and cultural aspects of the Italian Renaissance;
- apply an interdisciplinary approach to the study of a crucial period in Western culture by exploring the intersection of literary texts (in translation), material and visual culture;
- demonstrate critical thinking skills through recommended reading, essay writing, online forums and class discussion; and
- conduct independent research and effectively communicate ideas through a wide range of mediums.
