Develop skills and specialist knowledge that will help you to stand out in your career, with your information technology capstone project.

This unit forms part of your IT capstone, and offers you an opportunity to work as part of a team to develop a proposal and design specification for a real-world software-based system.

With projects taken from diverse sources, including academic linkages, community organisations and industry, you will be exposed to the early stages of the software development lifecycle. Your focus will be on requirements gathering, producing a robust specification and the development of an early prototype.

Consolidating your knowledge and technical skills, you will be expected to utilise project management tools and version repositories and apply modern software development methodology.

Notes

Some projects cannot be undertaken off campus. Advanced Standing cannot be granted for this unit.

 

COSC594 requires a knowledge of, and programming experience with, a high level programming language.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. communicate effectively with clients/stakeholders to gather requirements and to manage client expectations over the course of a project;
  2. analyse requirements, critically evaluate options, conduct research and present a design to clients and other stakeholders;
  3. apply knowledge and skills to the software design and development process;
  4. apply a relevant planning strategy to a software development project using appropriate tools and methods; and
  5. participate as a member or leader of diverse teams within a multi-level, multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural setting to bring a project to successful completion.
