Unit information

This unit develops your understanding of contemporary approaches to matters of Indigenous politics and public policy on a global and Australian level. It is focused on assessing a body of public policies that have and continue to impact Indigenous Peoples. In doing so, the unit explores political change in this area.

The unit provides you with important conceptual and background information which will be of great use in a range of professional environments; from social work and to policy making.

You will be exercising critical thinking skills so as to autonomously evaluate and apply information and ideas from the literature you are reading.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate an understanding of a range of approaches on Indigeneity within the context of modern British-settler nations and to a lesser extent, around the globe;
  2. identify, understand and clearly communicate critical issues of decision-making in political and public policy change in Indigenous societies within nation-states; and
  3. exercise critical thinking skills so as to autonomously evaluate and apply information and ideas from the literature.
