Unit information
To meet the needs of patients with diverse health challenges, your ability to apply and integrate your nursing knowledge in practice is key.
This unit will help you to hone your psychomotor fluency — your ability to perform specific clinical skills — through hands-on experience, as you undertake 80 hours of clinical placement. A range of individual and collaborative learning experiences encourage you to reflect on your performance throughout the unit.
During your placement, you will build on your knowledge of fundamental care, translating this into practice. You will care for people with invasive devices (for example, those commonly used to meet hydration, nutrition and elimination needs), wounds and stomas, and learn to safely administer common medications by different routes.
Your reporting skills will also be extended, as you document findings relating to patient assessment and monitoring, and medication storage, administration and reporting.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
