Unit information
Effective teaching relies on your ability to understand and analyse continual innovation in learning theory, and your capacity to transfer this knowledge to real-world planning, teaching and assessment.
In this unit, you will develop knowledge of the current, modern theories that underpin our understanding of how primary students learn and you will explore how theories of teaching and learning relate specifically to mathematics education.
By assessing current innovations and changing trends in mathematics education research, you will extend the analytical skills required to identify aspects of learning theory with special significance to mathematics education.
Your ability to put innovation into practice and develop appropriate implementation strategies for learning across different levels of primary teaching will also be developed.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
