Undertaken in your final trimester of study, in this unit you will choose your own topic and devise a study plan to investigate it independently.

Supported by access to mentoring from our experienced staff, this unit offers an invaluable opportunity pursue specialised study, extending your ability to command, analyse, synthesise and apply advanced knowledge and skills.

Culminating in the preparation of an academic paper, technical report or health translation document, this unit allows you to blend scholarly, professional or practice issues that are relevant to your discipline and interests in health and community care.

Pre-requisites
Candidature in [(MCouns or MMHP or MHM from 2018 and 48cp] or [(MHM prior to 2018) and 72cp] and [(HLTH500 or EHPS590)] or candidature in [MSW(ProfQual) and 72cp] or MSW(Qual) and permission of the Course Coordinator.
Co-requisites
(HLTH501 or EHPS591) and for MSW(ProfQual) students: HSSW550

Notes

Students wishing to enrol in this unit are required to lodge a 'Permission to Enrol' request  through AskUNE. 

For ALL students this unit must be taken in the last trimester of study. Advanced Standing will not be granted for this unit.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. work independently to devise a plan to investigate a specialised area of study at an advanced level;
  2. critically analyse and appraise principal themes in the selected area of study at an advanced level;
  3. pursue specialised study at an advanced level with minimal supervision;
  4. integrate theoretical concepts and apply these to professional and/or practice issues in the selected specialised area of study; and
  5. present a written submission (review, report or article) for a professional research or other scholarly purpose.
