Unit information
This unit will enable you to build on the theoretical understandings and skills developed in LING561 and to put them into practice through analysing and interpreting real research data, and critiquing published studies.
You will gain practice in working with both qualitative and quantitative data and will consolidate your understanding of the research process in applied linguistics.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- perform skilled analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data using established principles;
- demonstrate an enhanced ability to identify research methods applicable to particular research questions and contexts;
- provide high level interpretation of analysed data, both qualitative and quantitative, to the standard expected of academic publications; and
- demonstrate high level research literacy with regard to the basic principles of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, in relation to applied linguistics.
