Dr Marie Knox

Adjunct Associate Professor - Faculty of Medicine and Health; School of Rural Medicine

Biography

Dr Knox is an expert in Disability Studies. She has a BA (Hons), Grad Dip Ed, and PhD from Macquarie University, and is currently an Honorary Affiliate at the Centre for Disability Studies, University of Sydney.  Dr Knox’s particular interest and focus is on the critical role that people with disabilities themselves can play in planning and implementing research designs to explore topical issues of importance to them. She has also been a chief investigator on several ARC projects focusing on the well-being of people with disabilities. Her research has convinced her of the value of the learning from “lived experience”, and the critical and, perhaps emancipatory, role of research in the unsilencing of the voices of people with disabilities and other marginalised groups of people.
