Mr Matthew West
Lecturer , Pharmacy - School of Health
Biography
After completing degrees in both Biomedical Science and Pharmacy from JCU in 2002, Matt has worked as a practicing clinician and academic in diverse settings for almost 20 years. Initially starting a career in private hospital pharmacy, Matt moved to specialise in the provision of pharmacy services in residential care facilities and aged care. Identifying barriers for the needs of the elderly and having a specific passion for rural and remote health, he transitioned into a pharmacist management role in a small country town. His wealth of experience in pharmacy practice and a desire to spearhead adaptation and innovation in our profession, led him to establish himself in the academic realm at UNE. The rapidly changing environment in the pharmacy industry, provoked by both fiscal pressures and health crises, has continued to motivate his pursuit for excellent and equitable healthcare. Innovation in teaching, pharmacoeconomics, novel and traditional healthcare provision as well as professional ethics are the cornerstones for his research and personal practice.
