Biography

I completed My PhD at the University of New England, Armidale NSW, Australia. My PhD research investigated inclusive educational practices in classrooms and the use of Indigenous knowledges, values and practices to support students’ learning. The title of my Thesis was The National Special Needs Education Policy Framework (2009) of Kenya: Its Impact on Teachers' Instructional Design and Practice in Inclusive Classrooms in Kenya.

I obtained a Masters in Special and Inclusive Education from Macquarie university, Sydney, Australia. Before retraining as a Special Education teacher, I was a teacher of English and Literature. I have taught in NSW, the Northern Territory and overseas. I have the lived experience of working in Regional, Rural and Remote (RRR) schools as well as in urban areas.

I have a passion for inclusive education because I have a strong believe in education as a human right and equity of access to education. In my role as a lecturer in Inclusive education I demonstrate and explain inclusive educational practices that enable all students to access and participate in learning. I am also interested in teacher education and specifically the retention of teachers.

I am active in research and collaborate with others nationally and internationally in the teaching of inclusion of students with additional needs. I have collaborated with UNE staff in providing professional learning to teachers in Victoria, Australia on implementing the High Ability toolkit in their respective schools. I also collaborated with UNE staff in creating and updating a suite of tools for teachers in Victoria to use with high ability school students in the classroom. I was also invited by the Department o Education, NSW to present workshops on learning intervention.
