Biography

Erin Kim-Rich is a Lecturer in English, Literacies and Language Education at the University of New England. She specialises in teaching Secondary English curriculum and has a diverse range of teaching experience, including in Australian secondary schools, international contexts and tertiary education. Her PhD research is on supporting English language learners in mainstream English, and her research interests are in professional development and pedagogy for Secondary English, English as an Additional Language/ Dialect (EAL/D), and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), as well as digital and multimodal literacies, intercultural collaboration, social inclusion and culturally relevant pedagogy

Current Projects

Global Climate Change Education Initiative. This Spencer Foundation funded international, multidisciplinary, action-based research project engages young people with the complex issues of climate change and focuses on creating opportunities to learn through digital interactions with peers around the world to critically explore the ways climate change is affecting them locally as well as its impacts globally.The project is led by Professor Mary Brydon-Miller at the University of Louisville, USA, in partnership with researchers at the University of Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria; De La Salle University, Philippines; and North-West University, South Africa. Erin Kim-Rich will lead the Australian context with the aim to connect both metropolitan and regional communities to explore localised understandings of climate change within the broader international project.

Creative Pedagogies for Professional Learning: Co-Creation and Participation in Intercultural Spaces. This multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary research project is led by Dr Alison Grove O’Grady, Dr Catherine Smyth from The University of Sydney in partnership with Erin Kim-Rich and aims to address the needs of staff and community calling for participatory and new pedagogy and practices that develop and extend on English speaking skills in schools in Hanoi, Vietnam. The research program develops and delivers an informed professional learning program, which uses drama rich pedagogies and translanguaging approaches.
