Older Farmers and Retirement

The primary aim of this project was to develop a greater understanding of the meaning and experience of retirement for farm families. The research involved a comprehensive literature review, the conduct of focus groups and interviews in four areas of northern NSW, and the development and evaluation of a retirement planning and education program designed to meet the specific needs of farmers and their families.

The project used internet chat sessions as part of the information gathering process, and to keep those in Australia and overseas with interests in this area informed about the progress and findings of the project. An email discussion list, NEAT (Network for Education, Ageing and Technology), was established to provide a forum for discussion and information exchange for those with an interest in this area.
