Week 8: Student Presentations

Published 06 October 2023

This week saw the start of student case presentations. Once a week, two students have an hour each to present one (anonymous) case from their caseload to our cohort and supervisors.

In their presentation, the student details the client’s experience, and explains their formulation of the case. This involves a discussion of the client’s presenting problem, any predisposing factors, and any factors that precipitate or maintain the client’s difficulties. The protective factors that the client has, such as family or community support, are also outlined as these are potential resources for the client’s recovery. Our students then go on to present their diagnosis for their client and their treatment plan, as well as how they executed the plan, discussing which aspects were effective and which were less effective.

This is a great opportunity for us to learn from each other. It’s a bit like supercharging the Clinic experience as, not only do we get our own experience, but also that of the rest of our cohort. It’s also some positive time for our cohort to share, and space to support and encourage each other.
