Condensed Matter Physics
Research Teach Repeat: Condensed Matter Physics
The main research projects in the computational condensed matter physics group at UNE focus on designing efficient nanomaterials for diverse applications. Our research includes the computational design of nanomaterials for clean and renewable energy storage, such as hydrogen storage, and for rechargeable metal-ion and metal-sulfur batteries. Another major area of our research involves designing nanosensors for environmental protection and nanobiosensors for early disease diagnostics. We aim to revolutionise diagnostics by capturing specific volatile compounds in human breath to detect early-stage cancers, Alzheimer’s, depression, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, kidney diseases, and more.
