Cluster Schools Initiative

The Cluster Schools Initiative is a partnership working with schools to increase placements and reduce administration for placements. It aims to build a social community of practice for teachers education students and create better links with schools for placement. As time progresses, the number of these clusters will increase.

To apply for placement for placement in one of the Cluster Schools tick the box(es) at the top of the Placement Assistance Form and fill in the appropriate table under the heading "Cluster Schools Initiative"

When applying to a given cluster you may be placed in any school within that cluster and will not have a choice of specific school.

You can locate the Placement Assistance Form on the PREXUS Moodle site.

The current clusters are:

The Office for Professional Learning (OPL) has entered into a partnership agreement with a number of schools in two parts of Greater Sydney, namely South Eastern Sydney and the Penrith-Blue Mountains area. Negotiations are continuing with other schools in these two districts and more schools will be added to the list of participating schools so watch this space.

Teacher Education Students (TES) wishing to be placed in any of these schools will need to apply to be placed in the Sydney Cluster Initiative for one or more professional experience placements. The OPL will then allocate the student to one of the cluster schools.

Students may choose one or both clusters, but it will not be possible to nominate specific schools within the cluster including those added in the future. All placements to these schools will be arranged via the partnership arrangements.

Three placement periods will operate in the clusters as it is envisaged that TESs placed in the same time period will be able to share their experiences in a peer network both within the school and between the cluster schools. The commencement dates for placements in 2020 are; Term 2 April 27th (Week 1), Term 3 August 10th (Week 4) and Term 4 November 2nd (Week 4).
