Unit information
The Australian Year 7 to 10 syllabus emphasises a continuum of learning from upper primary to junior secondary school. These formative years are crucial for students in developing basic skills and a positive attitude to learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
This unit will equip you with the skills to confidently and creatively teach STEM subjects and inspire pupils in junior secondary school using an integrated approach to STEM education.
Honing your skills using a range of facilitation techniques and resources, including ICT, you will learn to create an inclusive environment of student participation and engagement in classroom activities.
With a focus on the NSW syllabus and context, you will analyse the roles that project design, investigation, construction, and technology play in STEM education in the middle years.
You will put your skills into practice writing a plan to teach a project-based learning sequence in a real-life, practical context.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
