Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

Teaching agriculture to senior secondary students, you have an opportunity to inspire the next generation to explore and contribute to this essential sector of our economy in their future careers.

Studying this unit, you will focus on preparing Year 11 and 12 students to complete the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) in Agriculture 2 Unit and Primary Industries.

Analysing HSC agriculture and primary industries requirements, you will explore assessment procedures and techniques relevant to agriculture and technology.

You will investigate and learn about a novel agricultural enterprise and develop your skills in planning a teaching sequence based on that enterprise. You will also develop a long-term plan for teaching over a 10-week period.

You will assess legal requirements, particularly relating to animal welfare in schools.

Examining accreditation and professional development opportunities, you will ensure you understand the professional skills you require as a high school agriculture teacher.

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
