To advance your career in the health service sector, you need to develop your understanding of management issues and practices to complement your health care expertise.
This unit will help you build the skills and knowledge to add value in your role and take your career to the next level, whether you work in aged care, community care, disability or counselling services.
You will explore, analyse and examine a range of management topics in the context of health and social care, including policy directions and funding issues, accountability and social responsibility of providers for maintaining quality of care and financial management and budgeting.
You will also examine providers’ accountability and social responsibility for maintaining quality in health and social care.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- analyse and evaluate basic management principles and understand their application to health and social care;
- demonstrate an understanding of the accountability and social responsibility of providers for maintaining quality of care in health and social care; and
- demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles of human and financial resource management as they are applied to a range of health and social care contexts.
