Unit information
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, and your understanding of the impact and management of heart disease, stroke and other vascular disorders is critical to ensuring the delivery of safe patient care.
With 80 hours of professional clinical placement, this unit builds your knowledge using case scenarios of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
Focusing on applied anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics and assessment, treatment and pharmacology, you will develop a multifaceted understanding of cardiovascular disease.
Examine concepts central to safe and effective nursing practice, and refine your critical thinking, clinical reasoning and reflective practice skills, underpinned by key ethical and legal concepts for person-centred, evidence-based care. Topics include intra and interprofessional communication, partnerships in care, cardiovascular health promotion strategies, and the geographical contexts of nursing practice.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
