Unit information
Build on your knowledge of the measurement and assessment of fitness and function by studying this practical unit.
You will explore advanced assessments of exercise capacity with emphasis on the processes and practices required to safely conduct tests in healthcare settings.
You will discuss evidence supporting the use of exercise and health assessments and analyse the current guidelines for practice and common workplace procedures. You will hone your skills in interpreting, communicating and applying clinical measurements.
Through lectures and tutorial activities, you will learn the theories of exercise and health assessment, while mandatory practical classes will allow you to develop advanced exercise assessment skills.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad and coherent theoretical understanding of exercise and health assessments including the principles, assumptions, clinical and scientific rationale which underpin their utility in practice;
- apply specialist knowledge to select, develop and modify protocols for safe and effective assessment of exercise capacity and health status in healthcare settings;
- demonstrate professional and technical proficiency in collecting subjective and objective information on exercise capacity and health status; and
- exercise judgment and initiative to interpret, communicate and apply assessment findings in fitness and healthcare settings.

Assessments are subject to change up to 8 weeks prior to the start of the teaching period in which you are undertaking the unit.
