UNE Council

The Council is the governing body of the University, chaired by the Chancellor and advised by the following Committees:

  • Audit & Risk Committee
  • Finance & Infrastructure Committee
  • Honorary Degrees, Titles and Tributes Committee
  • Nominations Committee
  • Remuneration Committee
  • Standing Committee of Council

There are currently 13 members on the UNE Council made up of the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor, Chair of the Academic Board, staff representatives and a student representative, as well as members of local and metropolitan businesses and the wider community. There are designated Ministerial appointees (State Government) and external members appointed by Council.

The aim of the University Council and its committees is to oversee the operation of UNE for the benefit of its students, staff, academic community and the wider community as a whole.

The Council may make rules in relation to any activity or function of the University provided they are consistent with the University of New England Act 1993 and the University's By-Laws.

The Council seeks to make decisions that contribute to the learning environment and the interests of the University's stakeholders in a positive and transparent manner.
