A pre-requisite is a unit that you must pass before you will be permitted to enrol in a related or subsequent unit. Most pre-requisite units will contain foundation knowledge which is essential for success in later units. Read more.
Students will need access to a computer with basic recording software (Windows Sound Recorder or Audacity, for example)

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- apply knowledge of socio-linguistic issues related to the use of Spanish around the world such as: varieties of Spanish and their social implications, bilingualism, relationship of Spanish with other languages (particularly English), and speakers' attitudes towards their use of language;
- identify Spanish dialectal differences (especially phonetic ones) and show enhanced intercultural competence as Spanish speakers;
- apply and decode phonetic transcription to effectively render spoken utterances in Spanish, including specific sound, stress and intonation patterns; and
- demonstrate applied knowledge of specific requirements for both spoken and written Spanish at an intermediate level and self reflect on identified areas for improvement.
