The unit consists of the supervised preparation of a research dissertation of 14 000-16 000 words in Spanish on a topic within Hispanic studies, as agreed upon by the student and members of the discipline.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- independently apply a coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in a particular area of Hispanic studies;
- conduct and report independent research in the particular context of Hispanic cultural studies that demonstrates a high level of research skills and the ability to write critically;
- demonstrate an understanding of the social and ethical issues in relation to a particular area of Hispanic studies with intellectual independence; and
- demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods pertaining to Hispanic studies.
