Unit information
With our Honours in Linguistics degree, you can immerse yourself in the study of language and enhance your research, communication and critical thinking skills through your own original research project.
This one-year (full time) program enables you to take your studies to a higher level in a specific area of linguistics. Four integrated components of coursework give you an overview of the discipline and enable you to master the fundamental elements of theory and methodology related to your specialisation.
You will then undertake a substantial dissertation, with direct access to an experienced supervisor to ensure you develop your research, planning and analytical skills to an advanced level.
Opportunities are available for students who obtain a good grade in Honours to continue to a higher degree in linguistics. Alternatively, you can draw on the many transferable skills you obtain from an Honours degree to pursue new professional opportunities.

Good Universities Guide 2024Studying online
At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.
We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
