Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- independently identify the developmental patterns children go through in learning phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics in first language acquisition;
- critically evaluate various research methodologies used to study first language acquisition and the major theoretical approaches;
- examine the various views of how children learn to read and write, with the ability to communicate this effectively to others;
- demonstrate an understanding of the difficulties that may arise during the development of language literacy; and
- demonstrate coherent theoretical knowledge of the educational implications of what they have learned.
